1. The bridge, at the same site as the current Market St. Bridge crossing the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg, was then known as the Camelback Bridge. The toll charged for thousands of Union troops to cross amounted to a total of $3,029.00. (I've worked in Harrisburg since 1994 and never heard this story before finding it while searching for the answer to this question.) (We provide water-cooler stories at no extra charge)
