Trivia Game # 49 - Week 6 Game #49 - Week 6
The two players who are leading in points have already won prizes, so a fabulous prize is at stake for those back in the pack .
*** We will take a Holiday break before starting the next game, so everyone isn’t rushed. I’ll post Week 1 of Game #50 sometime between Dec. 15 and Dec. 29 with those answers due by Jan. 5, 2008. ***
Here are the questions for Week 6:
1. Some companies of this Union regiment were nicknamed as “hunters” of wild animals. Example: (Country-name _________ Hunters). What was this regiment?
2. He might have been a wealthy man, instead he died in poverty. He ‘invented’ and patented something that would be named for him. Before the war he had contracted with the US Department of War to be paid $5 for each of these made. Over 40,000 of these were used by the Union army during the Civil War. In a case that went to the Supreme Court, he was denied payment. Name the ‘inventor’ and the item in question.
3. The 2nd largest battle in the state where it took place, it is said to be one of the Confederacy’s most decisive victories. Union casualties outnumbered those of the Confederates by a ratio of greater than 6 to 1. Name the battle.
4. An alcoholic son of a famous author, he joined an infantry company in May 1861, eventually attaining the rank of Captain. His personal problems were compounded from lingering effects of a head injury at Gettysburg. In the early 1870’s he went to California where he disappeared, never again to be heard from. Name him.
5. In the aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg, a large field hospital was established east of the battlefield where those too badly injured to be transported to permanent hospitals were treated. It consisted of over 400 tents and between 3500 and 5000 patients were treated there. What was this place called?
Answers are due by 6:00 pm (eastern) on Saturday, December 15. Good Luck!
On a personal note, I’ve been on pins and needles all week about some things I have found concerning my distant Civil War soldier relatives. Seems there may be an existing diary of one of them, and some shocking information about another! I’m waiting for some replies to inquiries, but I’ll post it soon on the Researching Your Civil War Ancestry thread.
