Default Mail Boxes

Players, please check your mail boxes. Sometimes I need/want to PM a player, but their box is full (ewc).

You only get 50 total in and out messages, and I'll bet you can all trim that down to 20 or less.

You don't want to miss an important message, do you?

C R S E H E R. signal flags that mean Corse is here.
The evening of October 3rd, 1864, Sherman realized that Hood's objective was the storehouses at Allatoona, bursting with rations for the Union Army in Atlanta. His order to Corse to advance from Rome to Allatoona with a division arrived in Rome early October 4th. Corse began to move men and munitions east to the pass, arriving early on October 5th with about 1,000 men. This doubled the size of the garrison. As senior officer, Corse assumed command from Colonel John Tourtellotte. A message was sent to Sherman. Now standing beside the signalman at the top of Kennesaw Mountain he made out the message "Corse is here" then remarked, "He will hold it; I know the man."
12.
Walter Newhall Played Cricket for Gentlemen of the United States of America against an English Touring side led by George Parr .

13Battle of Antietam, Meade replaced the wounded Hooker in command of I Corps, selected personally by McClellan over other generals his superior in rank. He performed well at Antietam, but was wounded in the thigh.[5]

14 Pacs Provisional Army of Confederate States The Army of the Confederate States of America (ACSA) was the regular army, organized by Act of Congress on March 6, 1861. It was authorized to include 15,015 men, including 744 officers, but this level was never achieved. The men serving as (full) generals, such as Samuel Cooper and Robert E. Lee, were enrolled in the ACSA to ensure that they outranked all militia officers.
The Provisional Army of the Confederate States (PACS) was authorized by act of Congress on February 28, 1861, and began organizing on April 27. Virtually all regular, volunteer, and conscripted men preferred to enter this organization since officers could achieve a higher rank in the Provisional Army than they could in the Regular Army. If the war had ended successfully for them, the Confederates intended that the PACS would be disbanded, leaving only the ACSA.

11- With General Hood displaced from Atlanta, he was free to roam the countryside and prey on General Sherman's supply line and isolated garrisons. Operating in this way, Hood was a terrific problem for Sherman. Anticipating trouble at Allatoona Pass on the Western & Atlantic RR- his lifeline with the North, Sherman ordered BG John Murry Corse and his division to reenforce the garrison there, and he himself would sally forth from Atlanta to try to catch Hood. 5 Oct '64, MG Samuel French's division of Hood's Army invested Allatoona Pass. Sherman arrived on Kennesaw Mountain, 13 miles south, to see a battle raging at Allatoona. Sherman's signalmen observed the defenders' signalmen making the signals for those letters- meaning 'Corse Is Here', thus reassuring Sherman that reenforcements had indeed arrived at that place. As the lure goes, Sherman signaled back- 'Hold the Fort For I Am Coming.' Allatoona Pass held; French broke off the attack and Hood got away. This event helped crystallize Sherman's resolve that chasing Hood all over Hades while he (Hood) to struck at will anywhere in his (Sherman's) rear was not a winning proposition, and so drop all and head off for the sea;

12- Capt Walter S Newhall. Newhall was a premier American cricketer, and had played on an American squad against the Brits in 1860 at Camden, gaining much acclaim from the accomplished British- and by the way, beating them;

13- General Hooker led the I Corps on McClellan's opening flank attack on Lee's left at Antietam. Hooker went down with a wound, and Meade, commanding the divison of PA Reserves, took over the corps command- 17 Sept, '62;

14- ASCA ?- Army of the Conferate States of America- the duly constituted official army of the Confederacy-

analogous to the US Regular Army. The Confederates had little opportunity to set this up besides the departments needed to run the War, thus the PACS- the Provisional Army of the Confederat States- was the primary military instrument of the Confederacy- akin to the US Volunteer Service. Almost all of the officers and men of the Confederate forces were PACS;

15- Journalist, explorer, deserter- Henry Morton Stanley- luckily he didn't desert his quest to find the long lost African explorer, Dr David Livingstone.

12. Walter S. Newhall; played on the US cricket team

11. If you put a “u” after the c, these letters form the words Sherman spoke about a woman who had spurned his advances. INCORRECT [ No, tho he was often at odds with his wife, I don't think he ever did Curse Her]

12. His name was Walter S. Newhall and he had played cricket for a US team against Canada.

13. Meade succeeded Hooker in command of the First Corps at Antietam after Hooker was wounded.

14. PACS is “Provisional Army of the Confederate States.” ACSA is “Army of the Confederate States of America.” The PACS, which included militia units, was recruited for the purpose of fighting the war. The ACSA was the regular army, a much smaller organization, limited to about 15,000 troops. Although it certainly fought in the Civil War, the intent was that the ACSA would be the Confederate military force in peacetime after the war if the CSA won it.

15. John Rowlands, aka Henry Morton Stanley of Stanley and Livingstone fame.
