Trivia Game # 48 - Week 2

Here are the questions for week 2 of Game # 48

6. Three older brothers of a legendary Old West lawman served in the Union army during the war, two in infantry, the other in cavalry. One was severely injured in a battle near Fredericktown, Missouri in October 1861, the other two served till the end of the war. Name the lawman 4th brother, and the names of the three soldiers and the units in which they served.

7. What Indiana Light Artillery commander as a captain, later a colonel of cavalry, and who was captured by Nathan Bedford Forrest in 1864, later founded one of America’s and the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies?

8. Identify this general.




9. From which West Point class(es) came the most Civil War generals? How many generals?

10. What Union Civil War general, while at West Point (Class of 1842), introduced the buttoned fly for trousers to replace the flap-fronted style?

Newton (Wyatt’s half brother); Company F of the Fourth Cavalry, Iowa Volunteers
James Cooksey Earp; 17th Ill Infantry, Co. F; wounded at Frederickton, discharged and disabled for the rest of the war
Virgil Walter 83rd Illinois Infantry

8. Adam Rankin “Stovepipe” Johnson

He is buried in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, a high honor. His grave is near those of Stephen F. Austin (the dark statue atop a marker in the background) and Albert Sidney Johnston (not shown).

6. The lawman was Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp.
The brothers were:
Newton- 4th Iowa cavalry
Virgil- 83rd Illinois Infantry
James- 17th Illinois Infantry

7. Eli Lilly

8. Adam Rankin "Stovepipe" Johnson

9.Classes 1841 and 1846- Both with 20

10. Abner Doubleday INCORRECT (he didn't invent Baseball either)

A couple questions were received about #9. The question should have specified graduates of those classes, and not to include dropouts, and not to include Brevet Generals. Sorry if the question was not sufficiently specific.

It's always a good idea to recheck your answers before posting, so you can be sure that what you answered was what you meant to answer. Players may always make corrections before closing time, but I'd appreciate it if that is not necessary.

10- My guess- Union General John Newton. INCORRECT
