The answers to the questions for week 1 of Game 48:

1. Harpers Ferry , Dixon Stansbury Miles (Notorious for drinking to excess on duty.)

2. Zealous Bates Tower

3. Philip Sheridan

4. Meriwether Jeff Thompson

5. 27th Maine Infantry - Their nine month term was expiring, so they prepared to return to Maine. Lee, however, was in the middle of his Gettysburg campaign and the Army of the Potomac was moving to cut off Lee, leaving Washington unguarded. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton promised a Medal of Honor to every man in the 27th Regiment, Maine Infantry who extended his enlistment beyond the agreed upon date. About 300 of them did stay, but only for four extra days. Because of a bureaucratic snafu, all 864 men in the regiment received the award for remaining in Washington D.C. after their service had expired. The medals were rescinded in 1917.

The scores at the end of Week 1:

FIRST DIVISION

Susan Sweet - 5
Rad2duhbone53 - 4

SECOND DIVISION

Blockaderunner - 4
texaswildcat - 4
Hoosier - 3

You'll notice that Susan Sweet and Rad2duhbone53 have been promoted to the First Division. This is because I have decided to keep 2 divisions, but promote any player who in the past has had one perfect score for a past game (games prior to Game 47) or the highest score for any one game (beginning with Game 47). This this should make the competitions within the divisions more balanced.

Thanks again. See you next week!
