Default Trivia Game # 47 - Week 5

Trivia Game # 47 - Week 5

Here are the questions for Week 5 of Game # 47

21. According to legend, an unusual burial took place after the Battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg. The burial was for a Captain of Company F of the 6th Wisconsin (of the “Iron Brigade”). Name the fallen Captain and what was unusual about his burial.
(submitted by Blockaderunner)

22. Give the names and ranks of all the Federal officers at Fort Pickens in Pensacola Bay in 1861 until April 12 of that year when the fort was reinforced.

23. In early October, 1863, Quantrill’s Raiders, many dressed in federal uniforms, attacked Federal forces near a Union outpost in Kansas. During the conflict the Raiders killed about 100 Federals. Among the dead was a famous horseman of the time, who some claim was partly responsible for the invention of one of Homer Simpson’s favorite food items. Name the battle and the horseman and the food item.

24. Before the Civil War, he fought in Algeria with the Chasseurs d’Afrique, and later won the Légion d'honneur for his actions at Solferino. For a time he served as ADC to General Winfield Scott. He lost an arm in the Mexican war. He was killed in an 1862 battle in Virginia when he mistakenly rode into enemy lines. Name this General.

25. He was born in what is now the state of Oklahoma. As a captain at First Bull Run he led a company of Union Cavalry. Subsequent changes resulted in his spending the rest of the war in the Western theater. He fought at Pea Ridge and was a Colonel at Iuka and Corinth. Promoted to Brigadier General in early 1863, he saw action at Chickamauga and Knoxville later that year. In 1864 he participated in the Atlanta campaign and Nashville. He was last in action at Selma, Alabama in 1865. He died in the early 20th century at a coastal town in Maine and was buried in Washington, D.C. Name him.

Answers are due by 6pm (eastern) on Saturday, August 18. Good luck!

Lost a few players this week, but welcome back to Rad2duhbone.

Here are the Answers for Week 5 of Game # 47:

21. Werner Von Bachelle - according to legend his pet Newfoundland dog, the Company’s mascot, would not leave Bachelle’s body after he was cut down in battle. After the battle, the dog was found lying dead across the chest of his fallen master. It is believed that Captain Bachelle and his faithful dog were buried together.

22. Adam Jacoby Slemmer, 1st Lieutenant and Jeremiah Howard Gilman, 2nd Lieutenant. (Lieutenants will do). (Wasn’t looking for NCOs, but thanks Sarladaise.)

23. Battle of Baxter Springs (aka Baxter Springs Massacre), Johnny Fry (Frey, Frye), Donut.

24. Philip Kearny

25. Frank Crawford Armstrong

If I've calculated correctly, here are the scores at the end of Week 5:

FIRST DIVISION

Sarladaise - 19
ewc - 8

SECOND DIVISION

Susan_Sweet - 23
Blockaderunner - 18
sockknitter - 17
