Well, I did intend these 'sample questions' to get you all used to a different style of question than you might be used to, and also to get your feedback about the same.
So here is a sort of a preliminary post-mortem on the 2nd question.
As I had admitted in about the first sample question that it was, to me, a very difficult one, so I now will submit that the 2nd question was rather on the easy side.
My questions are not expected to be answered off the top of ones head, they are perhaps meant to be something like puzzles, for which one must connect the clues.
For this particular question, the clues might seem to be obvious: a horse used by Gen. Grant, a thoroughbred, and in the Vicksburg Campaign.
Skeaky or tricky?
I do suspect that those who did not get the answer may have relied on what they thought they knew about Grant's horses, and did not do any investigation/research to confirm their guess.
The most well known of Grant's horse may well be Egypt, Cincinnati, and Jeff Davis, maybe because there are several existing photos of these.
Here is a trap I have myself fallen into, assuming I knew the answer without doing a bit of research to verify what I thought.
5 players identified the horse as Kangaroo, I think it is interesting that of the 3 incorrect answers, each named a different horse. All 3 of which as mentioned above are those most well known.
OK, so the thing to say here is to don't jump to your first impression, check it out before you trust even your own understanding.
Finally, I would like to address that some players regarded this question was 'sneaky' or 'tricky', etc.
I think the question was somewhat easy. 3 clues. Grant's horse, at Vickburg Campaign, a thoroughbred.
What is sneeky about that?
One does not need to do intensive analysis of the question, just read it and identify the clues which one can put togrther to find the answer.
A simple Google searce on the words 'Grant, Vicksburg, thoroughbred' would lead to more than one source for the correct answer.
Rivrrat's reply just about says it.
(That said, for those of you who thought this question was 'sneaky' or 'tricky', I'd be very interested in why you think it was so. Please let me know.)
