Default New Trivia Game Preview/Question

Hi all,
In preparation for the new Trivia Game, I decided to post this ‘sample’ question for a few reasons: for me, to get familiar with the mechanics of doing the game; for you, to get a a chance to get familiar with the ‘style’ of my questions.
This question is somewhat difficult, but please try to answer it. I will not keep score or even post your answers, unless you wish me to.
After some days, I will post the answer and have some explanation about it.

So here’s the question, give it your best shot:

This South Carolinian, who had served in the Mexican American War, was wounded at Bull Run, Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor. He was promoted to Brigadier-General as of January 1863. Post-war he returned to his native state and was elected to Congress in 1865 and later served on his state Supreme Court. Name him.

Do not be frightened or put off by this ’sample’ question. I don’t expect my actual questions to be quite so difficult.

Samuel McGowan.

Reason I glommed onto this name: Many years ago at Manassas, I ran into a travelling family name of McGowan. Was able to point out the place in the battlefield where his unit fought.

I'm going to leave this question out there till Saturday.

Maybe it is not as difficult as I had expected it might be! (?)

If you do find it too difficult to even venture a good guess, just post "I can't answer it" or something like that. I need to get a read on how many folks wish to play the new game, so post anything if you wish to play the new game. Tell me what you think!

Soon, I'll be posting something about some new features of the Trivia Game along with some features that would be retained.

Post any ideas or opinions about the game - what you would like to keep, what you would like to change, anything!

Nothing is finalized yet, so give me your input before it's too late.

I will only open to view those posts which contain the correct answer to the sample question, so don't be shy about expressing yourselves - just post.

(Also go to the New Trivia Game thread on the Polling Place forum.)

Sam

CSA Brig Genl Samuel McGgowan.

Rather a toughie in my estimation- glad to hear the general lot of questions won't be so tough- or at least I'll need to get started on them right early!

I have a number of questions I'll send along for you to use if you want and are still going to do that, sam. regards, ed
