Ole advised me that, after looking at this question, he and his wife played through GWTW and found the scene where Belle Watling says, "I'm a Confederate, just like everybody else; that's all." The scene comes immediately prior to the one where Scarlett, serving as a nurse at a makeshift Atlanta military hospital, is called to assist in an amputation to be performed without benefit of anesthesia.
Interesting to note that the movie portrays Watling as being considerably more well-spoken than the character envisioned by Margaret Mitchell. In the book, a rather less-refined Watling expresses the same sentiment in the words "Ain't I a Confedrut, same as you?" |
