Hoosier:
Question 14 was a poser. Former president Polk lived for 103 days after Taylor's inauguration. During that time he was touring southern cities, was poorly, and taken fatally ill -- probably in Louisiana. If he was in partnership with a soon-to-be CSA general, it couldn't have been for very long. Where'd you find the source?

After three weeks of play, we still have six players with perfect scores. First Division members SamGrant and Sarladaise haven’t flinched yet, and we have a four-way tie for first place in the Second Division.

Here are the answers to the questions for Week 3.

11. These landmarks are at the battlefield of Stones’ River (Murfreesboro).

12. (Franz) Sigel was the commander “mit” whom the soldiers fought.

13. The Battle of Shiloh, fought on April 6-7, 1862, produced 23,741 casualties, the ninth most of all the battles in the Civil War and the first with more than 20,000. Fort Donelson, which took place earlier that year, resulted in 19,455 casualties, most of them Confederate defenders of the fort who were taken prisoner.

14. Gideon Pillow, a fellow Tennessean, was once Polk’s law partner. One source where you could find this information is in the Wikipedia article, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gideon_Johnson_Pillow.

15. The Judah P. Benjamin Confederate Memorial Historic Site is at Ellenton, FL, in the area where Benjamin stayed for a while after the war before moving on to England. Thanks to Miss Markie for pointing out the other sites in Virginia and North Carolina.

The scores at the end of Week 3:

FIRST DIVISION

SamGrant 18
Sarladaise 18

SECOND DIVISION

20thMass 18
ewc 18
Rad2duhbone53 18
RivrRat 18
Miss Markie 17
Texaswildcat 17
Jamieva 15
Ole 14
