Welcome to our newest player, Subace914.
Here are the answers to the questions for Week 2.
6. The answer I was looking for was “Uncle Robin’s Cabin,” but most of you gave me the full title, drawn out in the typical 19th-century style of naming books.
7. The first Union general to die in combat was Nathaniel Lyon, at Wilson’s Creek.
8. The answer I had for this question was that, since Confederate cavalrymen supplied their own horses, the Confederate army gave him a furlough to allow him to go find himself a new mount. I chose this question because I thought the consequence of this operating procedure was interesting: The Confederate cavalry was never at full strength, because at any given time, a number of their troopers would be away on furlough trying to secure new horses. However, since there were so many variations on the answer, anyone who participated in the game this week gets credit for a correct answer to question 8.
9. The major general’s coat had the buttons arranged in two columns consisting of three sets of three buttons each. Since my question did not make it clear that I wanted the answers to specify the number of columns, the number of sets in each column, and the number of buttons in each set, I accepted any answer that mentioned the fact that there were three buttons in a set.
10. The Red River Campaign was ordered by Lincoln, who was concerned that the Emperor might try to establish a French puppet government in Mexico. The goal of the campaign was for the Union army to be able to occupy eastern Texas.
