Default Trivia Game # 41 - Week 5

I have the questions for Week 5 ready, so I'm going to go ahead and post them a little early.

Those who have not yet answered the questions for Week 4 may still do so until 6 PM EDT today, Saturday, Sept 9.

Here are the questions for Week 5 of Game # 41.

21. On what religious holiday did Lee surrender to Grant?

22. Prior to being promoted to brigadier general and given the post of Quartermaster General of the U.S. Army, what was the last previous assignment of army engineer Capt. Montgomery Meigs?

23. Joseph Reid Anderson served briefly as a CSA brigadier general, but was more valuable to the Confederacy in a civilian capacity. What was his important civilian job?

24. The “cracker line” was a route opened up to allow delivery of supplies to besieged troops at what location?

25. (Two point question) During a mock legislative session in 1864, members of Sherman’s forces passed a resolution repealing the secession of Georgia. At what city was the mock legislative session held?

Answers to the questions for Week 5 will be due by 6 PM EDT on Saturday, September 16.

Good luck!

After the fifth week of play, ewc and Sarladaise continue to lead the Second Division with perfect scores of 30 points each. 20th Mass and Rad2duhbone53 are right behind with 29 points.

Robert B. Condon's opponents have pretty much conceded the First Division field to him this time around. According to my records, Sarladaise has recorded a perfect score in one game in the past, so if she does it again, she will join the First Division for future games.

Here are the answers to the questions for Week 5.

21. Lee surrendered to Grant on Palm Sunday.

22. My source said that, prior to becoming Quartermaster General, Meigs was supervising the remodeling of the U.S. Capitol building. However, after checking, I find that, while supervising the remodeling of the Capitol, he was simultaneously supervising the completion of the Washington Aqueduct – and while he was doing both of those things, Lincoln did assign him to the relief of Fort Pickens. I guess Abe heard the old adage that, if you want something important done, you should ask a busy person to do it. I accepted all three answers.

23. Anderson was director of the Tredegar Iron Works.

24. Troops under George Thomas and Joe Hooker opened the trail known as the cracker line to help ward off starvation of Union troops besieged at Chattanooga in 1863.

25. It was held at Milledgeville, which was then the capital of Georgia.

The scores at the end of Week 5:

FIRST DIVISION

Robert B. Condon 28
SamGrant 18
Aggie80 5

SECOND DIVISION

ewc 30
Sarladaise 30
20thMass 29
Rad2duhbone53 29
Texaswildcat 23
Miss Markie 18
bgl1952 5
Gunny 1
