Default Trivia Game # 41 - Week 1

Time to begin a new game. New players are welcome to join at any time, but the first week of any game is always an especially good time to start.

Here are the questions for Week 1 of Game # 41. Rules will be the same as those for Game # 40.

1. What Tennessean, with no military training prior to the Civil War, went from the rank of private to that of lieutenant general in three years?

2. Where is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Confederate States of America to be found? (A correct answer must name the city and state. You may give a more precise location within that city if you wish, but if you do, it must be correct.)

3. Why was anthracite coal preferred by Confederate blockade runners, when they could get it?

4. What three Union officers received the official Thanks of Congress for their actions at Gettysburg? (A correct answer must name all three.)

5. (Two point question) Walter W. Gosden was a soldier in Mosby’s Rangers. For what would his son Freeman become famous in the 20th century?

Answers to the questions for Week 1 will be due by 6 PM EDT on Saturday, August 19.

Good luck!

1. That Devil Forrest, (Nathan Bedford that is).

2. Biloxi, Mississippi

3. Anthracite, the "Copenhagen of Coal" - smokeless

4. This was a challenging question. Was the key the phrase "at Gettysburg"? Joseph Hooker did receive official thanks for the campaign.
My answer, however, is George Meade, O. O. Howard, and Winfred Hancock. (But beware of Daniel Sickles and you'll probably get a Joshua Chamberlin).

5. Hmm there, Kingfish, I'se thinks that would be that der rascal Amos Jones.
