Answers to the questions for Week 6 will be due by 6 PM EDT on Saturday, August 12.
Congratulations to Robert B. Condon, winner of the First Division, and to Rad2duhbone53, winner of the Second Division for Game # 40.
A word about question # 27. My source says that the amount of the bounty authorized by the Federal government in October 1863 was $300, period. My source gives no indication that anything extra was given to veterans. For that reason, I've marked Rad's answer as a multiple answer, since that answer says the bounty was $300 for new recruits and $400 for veterans.
Rad, if you can provide a source supporting your contention that the U.S. government did, indeed, offer such a two-tiered bounty in October 1863, then I will give you credit for your answer and you'll have a perfect score for the game. Whether you can do that or not, you still finish as the undisputed champion of the Second Division for this game.
Here are the answers to the questions for Week 6.
26. Scarlett O'Hara's mother's maiden name was Ellen Robillard.
27. Again, according to my source, the Federal government offered a bounty of $300 to anyone volunteering for a 3-year tour of duty.
28. Christopher Memminger was the first to propose the income tax.
29. Fitzhugh Lee was almost expelled from the USMA by his uncle, Robert E. Lee.
30. The word inscribed on the gavel used at the secession convention was “Secession,” appropriately enough.
