Current status of the trivia game The good news is, we are going to have a Game # 36.
The bad news is, I'm going to wait until next week to start it.
And the other thing I want to tell you is that I'm not sure how long I’m going to be able to continue running the trivia game unless I can get someone to help me out.
First things first. As of right now, I have about 20-25 questions lined up for use in Game # 36.
I could start Game # 36 right now. I should be able to scrape together another 5-10 questions over the next four weeks, so that I would then have enough to get through Weeks 5 and 6.
The problem is that most of the questions I have now are on a single topic. I'd prefer to put out a more diversified set of questions each week.
So I ask your indulgence for one more week while I see if I can look up some more items of Civil War arcana. I will plan to begin Game # 36 next Saturday. If I can present a diversified set of questions by that time, I will. If I have to use a lot of questions on the same topic, then that's the way it will be.
That’s the story for Game # 36.
Now, before I talk about the future, I want to tell you a little bit about the past.
I originally agreed to serve as moderator of the trivia game in November 2004. I did so on the understanding that I would not be responsible for preparing the questions and answers. I was told that someone else would prepare the questions and answers for me. I was asked only to take care of posting the questions, scoring everybody's responses and clearing them to appear on the message board, and keeping track of the score.
I was given 50 questions and answers to start out with. That took me through one game and four weeks of another. I expected to be given more questions at that time, but I wasn't. Either I was going to have to come up with another 10 questions on my own, or I would have to stop the game.
I didn't want to stop the game at that point. So I went to my local library and found a neat series of books covering the history of the Civil War. And in each book, I was able to dig up 5-10 good trivia items that could be used in the game.
That enabled me to finish the game in progress at the time, as well as another six or seven games after that. And I’ve enjoyed doing it.
Unfortunately, the well is running dry. I’ve gone through just about all the books in the series. I’m not sure where I’m going to find another source of trivia questions as good as this series was.
I feel confident that I can find enough questions to finish off Game # 36, but I’m not at all sure where I’m going to find enough questions for Game # 37 – or Game # 38 – et cetera.
Therefore, I would like to make an appeal to the members of our First Division.
There are currently six members of the First Division - Aggie80, Bill_Torrens, CindyScoops, RaggedRebel, Robert B. Condon, and SamGrant. You six are the people who have really demonstrated expertise in Civil War trivia.
Would any or all of you be willing to supply a set of 30 questions and answers for a game? All you would have to do would be to give me the questions and answers - I would continue to perform the moderator's function of posting them, scoring the responses, and all that.
Obviously, the downside for you is that, if you supply the questions for a game, you will not be eligible to play in that game.
But if four of you would be able to supply questions for one game, that would cover four games, or about six months. You’d be able to play in three of those four games. And maybe, by the end of that time, I will have found myself another set of books.
If any First Divisioners would be interested in helping me out in this manner, please respond to this post. |
