Default Trivia Game # 35 - Week 5

Here are the questions for Week 5 of Game # 35.

21. The 4th Alabama suffered heavy casualties at 1st Bull Run (1st Manassas) when they unfurled their Confederate colors while approaching a gray-clad regiment – which turned out to be the 2nd Wisconsin. What colonel was the commander of the 2nd Wisconsin?

22. Who was the oldest Union general to participate in the Battle of Gettysburg?

23. Courier Sgt. G. W. Tucker reported the death of what Confederate general to Robert E. Lee?

24. Many applicants for Civil War military service were turned down because they lacked the requisite six opposing upper and lower front teeth. Why was the lack of teeth considered grounds for rejection?

25. (Two point question) Union brevet major Alonzo Cushing was killed at the Angle at Gettysburg on 7/3/63 while commanding Battery A of the 4th U. S. Artillery in the face of Pickett’s Charge. Cushing is buried at West Point. What epitaph is on his tombstone?

Answers to the questions for Week 5 will be due by 6 PM on Saturday, December 10.

Good luck!

Clarification request on question 21.

Are you looking for the colonel who commanded the brigade of which the 2nd was part or the commander of the regiment?

Sorry for the ambiguity. I was looking for the colonel of the brigade of which the 2nd Wisconsin was a part.

My moderator's board shows that SamGrant and Tarheel are the only two people who have responded to this question to date. One of them gave me the name of the colonel of the brigade and the other gave me the name of the colonel of the regiment. I will count both of their responses as correct, since they were responding to an ambiguous question.

Now that the ambiguity is cleared up, all future responses will have to cite the name of the colonel of the brigade to receive credit.
