He called the truce so that wounded Union soldiers could be rescued from a fire that had broken out between the lines (and subsequently helped put out the fire, after which the battle was recommenced and Martin severely wounded). 13. "Boys, this is butchery." The grass had caught fire and the Union wounded were in danger of being burned alive. He called for a cease fire so that they could be removed to safety. (Is the Department of Homeland Security providing you with a list of what I check out of the library? On Saturday morning I finished reading a biography of Patrick Cleburne which described the incident in detail).

15. Well, since he died on January 22, 1927, the answer can not be John McCausland, so it must be Felix H. Robertson who died on April 20, 1928. (This is another Clintonesque question as Robertson was never confirmed in his rank by the Confederate Senate, so was he really a brigadier general. De jure v. de facto. Since he is listed in Warner's Generals in Gray, I would agree that he really was a brigadier general.
