2. What Confederate general, commanding Heth’s rear guard, was mortally wounded as the rest of the Army of Northern Virginia crossed the Potomac back to Virginia after the Battle of Gettysburg?

3. (Multiple-part answer required) Name both the author of the following quote and the other general to whom the quote refers: “He stood by me when I was crazy and I stood by him when he was drunk; and now we stand by each other always.”

4. What general headed Grant’s espionage operations during the Vicksburg Campaign?

5. (Two point question) A band of Confederate guerrillas operating in Kentucky in 1864-65 were led by a young man whose real name was Marcellus Clark, but who preferred to be known by an alias during this time. What was Clark’s alias?

Answers to the questions for Week 1 will be due by 6 PM on Saturday, October 1.

Good luck!
