1- CSA Brigadier General John Brown Gordon came across General Barlow and sent him to hospital. He also got word through the lines to Barlow's wife about his condition;

2- CSA Brigadier General James Johnston Pettigrew, killed at Falling Waters covering the Potomac crossing to Virginia;

3- General Sherman speaking of himself (crazy) and General Grant (drunk);

4- I believe Grant had his XVI Corps commander General Grenville Mellen Dodge oversee espionage operations during the Vicksburg Campaign and after;

5- As far as I can make out, Marcellus Clark, a Quantrill raider, went by Sue Mundy.

Good job by all of our players this week, as everyone scored a perfect five out of five correct answers.

Welcome back to Bill_Torrens, who, IIRC, shares with SamGrant the distinction of having completed one previous game with a perfect score of 36 points. If either of you can accomplish that a second time, you'll move up to the First Division.

Here are the official answers to the questions for Week 1 (though you all knew these already):

1. Barlow was assisted by John Gordon. Each man thought the other had been killed at Gettysburg until they met by chance in Washington after the war was over.

2. James Johnston Pettigrew survived the Battle of Gettysburg but not the retreat afterward.

3. William T. Sherman was the author of this quote referring to himself and Ulysses S. Grant.

4. Grenville Dodge headed Grant’s espionage operations during that campaign.

5. Sue Mundy. Clark, a small, long-haired man, borrowed the name of a notorious local madam, hoping that his raids would further embarrass the Federal army commander in Louisville.

The scoreboard at the end of Week 1:

FIRST DIVISION

CindyScoops 6
RaggedRebel 6

SECOND DIVISION

Bill_Torrens 6
ewc 6
FSPowers 6
Robert B. Condon 6
SamGrant 6
Sarladaise 6
Sockknitter 6
Texaswildcat 6
Traveller 6
