Default Trivia Game # 33 - Week 5

Here are the questions for Week # 5 of Game # 33.

21. When John Reynolds was killed on July 1, 1863, what Union general, as senior officer on the field, was his immediate successor in command?

22. In February 1861, delegates from 21 of the 34 states met for a Peace Conference in a last-ditch effort to resolve the issues dividing them. At what hotel was the conference held?

23. At the Battle of Front Royal, two regiments with the same name clashed with each other. What was the name of both regiments?

24. Prior to being sent into action at Gettysburg, the men of the Union’s Irish Brigade received absolution from the brigade chaplain, a future head of Notre Dame University. What was his name?

25. (Two point question) What VMI student, later to become a Confederate general, once challenged Stonewall Jackson to a duel?

I’m sorry to be late posting these questions. If anyone normally does most of their research on Saturday night and during the day on Sunday, and will have a hard time looking up the answers for this week's questions by the normal 6 PM Saturday deadline, please let me know and I’ll extend the deadline for responses.

If there are no requests for extension, answers to the questions for Week #5 will be due by 6 PM EDT on Saturday, September 17.

Good luck!

I'm not sure if my first reply went through so

21. Major General Oliver Otis Howard INCORRECT

22. As their ads said "Where else but the Willard?" The Willard Hotel Washington, D.C.

23. Confederate 1st Maryland/Union 1st Maryland

24. Father William Corby - there is a statue in South Bend identical to the one at Gettysburg. Because he is posed with his right arm giving absolution he is known at ND as "Fair Catch Corby." Contrary to popular belief, he did not say "Okay, men, let's go out there and win one for the rail splitter."

25. Brigadier General James A. Walker

YOUR FIRST REPLY DID GO THROUGH, BUT THIS ONE HAS A LITTLE EXTRA INFORMATION.

21- Reynolds's successor of the I Corps- 3rd Division commander and reputed founding father of baseball- Maj Genl Abner Doubleday, who performed very well this day, helping to save the Union's hide on Day 1;

22- Peace Conference met at Willard's Hotel, a prominent Washington meeting place and watering hole;

23- Battle of Front Royal, 1st Maryland USA met 1st Maryland CSA;

24- Irish Brigade chaplain Holy Cross (C.S.C.) Father William Corby;

25- Brig Genl James Alexander Walker as a cadet at VMI not only challenged his erstwhile professor Old Jackto a duel but actually tried to kill him, dropping a heavy object from an upper story window as Jackson was passing underneath. I can't find any reference to t his and don't remember where i read it, but i don't have all my materials at hand.
