Default Trivia Game # 31 - Week 3

Here are the questions for Week 3.

11. What personal tragedy befell Confederate Gen. James Longstreet in January 1862?

12. In planning his flank march to attack the Union right at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Stonewall Jackson received valuable assistance from the owner of a local iron furnace, who directed Jackson to the best route. What was the name of the iron furnace?

13. Ulysses S. Grant graduated 21st in his class at West Point. What Civil War general graduated first in that class?

14. In what country was Andersonville prison commandant Henry Wirz born?

15. (Two point question) The Union Army's Red River campaign of 1864 was a failure. What did Col. Joseph Bailey do to prevent it from becoming a disaster for the Navy?

As I write, there are still a few minutes left before the deadline for responses to the questions for Week 2, in case we have any players who want to get in at the last minute.

Answers to the questions for Week 3 will be due by 6 PM Saturday, June 4.

Good luck!

Default Game #31-Week 3

11. Three of his children died of scarlet fever (during epidemic). :-(

12. Catharine Furnace (Silly me almost thought this was 2 questions in one).

13. William Buel Franklin

14. Switzerland

15. Bailey instrumental in building wing dams to raise the river's water level so a US navy stranded by unusually low level could finally escape downriver. Admiral Porter reported: "He has saved the Union a valuable fleet, worth nearly two million dollars, and he has deprived the enemy of a triumph which would have emboldened them to carry on this war a year or two longer."

[[[ j/k Are you accepting "He gave a dam?" ;-) ]]
