Very happy to see that three new players have joined us this week. Welcome to Calicoboy, Idlewild, and CWReader.

Here are the answers to the Week 5 questions:

21. Buckingham told Burnside that, if he did not accept, command would go to Burnside’s bitter rival, Joe Hooker.

22. Lewis Armistead was expelled from West Point for crowning Early.

23. The 16th New York was wearing straw hats (they were either white or yellow, but they weren't green) sent them by the wife of their colonel. While other Union troops envied them prior to the battle because the straw hats were cooler than the forage caps worn by most soldiers, the 16th took heavy casualties at Gaines’s Mill because the hats made them inviting targets.

24. Mahone, who had digestive problems, had a milk cow tethered to his headquarters wagon so that he could always have a supply of fresh milk.

25. The message was sent by Stephen Field, Chief Justice of California.

Several players said that the reason Burnside accepted command of the AOP was because Buckingham told him it was an order. I found a couple of sources that indicated that the only reason Burnside accepted the post was because he wanted to prevent Hooker from getting it. I have not come across any source indicating that it was presented to Burnside as an order. If anybody can give me a source stating that Buckingham told Burnside it was an order, I will give credit for that answer.

Here are the scores after Week 5:

Cindyscoops 30
Raggedrebel 30
Sarladaise 30
Aggie80 29
Max 20
Traveller 20
Texaswildcat 15
Dawna 13
ewc 12
Sockknitter 12
Calicoboy 5
Idlewild 4

Max has provided me with a source indicating that Buckingham did, indeed, tell Burnside that he was being ordered to take command, so I will give him, Aggie80, and Texaswildcat credit for their answers to question # 21.

Sarladaise 30
Aggie80 30
