Answers for Week 4 questions:
16. The answer I expected was "God Save the South," but in view of the many sources that you all have quoted here, I must conclude that there is no one correct answer to this question. Everybody who responded will get credit. (For those who are interested, I'll put my explanation of why I thought "God Save the South" was the correct answer down at the bottom of this post.)
17. The commander of the Mississippi Squadron was Adm. David Dixon Porter.
18. The field across which the VMI cadets charged became known as the Field of Lost Shoes, because it was so muddy when they made their charge that some of the cadets' shoes stuck in the mud and were pulled right off their feet as they ran.
19. William T. Sherman was the first president (superintendent) of the school that later became Louisiana State University.
20. Gen. Judson Kilpatrick was Gloria Vanderbilt's great-grandfather.

When I visited Stonewall Jackson's house/headquarters in Winchester, VA some years back, there was a piano in the house, on which rested a copy of the sheet music for "God Save the South." The cover of the sheet music stated that it was "Our Confederate National Anthem." I had assumed, ever since, that it really was. However, I haven't been able to find any source that says the Confederate Congress ever officially adopted it, or any other song, as the
CSA national anthem. Evidently the label on the cover of the sheet music represented an effort by the publisher to boost sales.
