Geez...#1 is a killer....I searched for hours and never came up with anything concrete...There was an order placed for 20 ships of the Casco Class, designed by John ********....Only five of these were built...by several different shipbuilders... Because of design flaws (by chief engineer Alban Stimers) these were turned into torpedo ships...James Eads also used a lot of Indian names for his ships...
#2 was much easier....Kentucky/Gov. Beriah Magoffin

Tough question yesterday, yes? I guess that stirs things up a bit. Today you have another tough one, but you can handle it. Here is your Sunday question, worth two points if you answer it correctly:

This man was an eighteen year old private from Lexington, Virginia when he lost his leg in one of the earliest battles of the war. At Philippi, Virginia, a six-pound ball hit the ground a few feet away from him, then bounced toward him and mangled a leg. Left on the field when his fellow Confederates retreated, his life was saved by a surgeon James D. Robinson of the Sixteenth Ohio Regiment. Despite the wounded man's gray uniform, Robinson took off the shattered leg just below the hip.

While recuperating, the amputee spent about ninety days with barrel staves and his pocket knife. His homemade artificial leg was so good that he began making them for others. Winning a patent, he went into business and and found amputees so numerious in post-war years that at his death in 1919 his company had branches in four U.S. cities, as well as London and Paris.

Name this man.

Here are the scores after the last question:

28 SgtAbj *
