Yesterday's Question: The two locomotives in the Great Locomotive Chase, the General and the Texas, were both built in the same northern town. Name that town. Paterson, NJ.

Here is today's one point question:

What Southern state had more deserters than any other?

Expect the next trivia question to be posted tomorrow at about 9AM EDT. Please post your answer to this question before that time. Thank you!

North Carolina had the highest desertion rate of any state in the Confederacy; no wonder - NC supplied a fifth of enlistments!

Couldn't find anything on this...I'll go with VA for the obvious reasons....Va furnished the most troops, fought mostly in and around the state, and the West Virginia situation....
If it isn't the obvious, it is probably N.C. LOL

Fort Monroe. I believe that prior to 1832 it was called Fortress Monroe. What is the difference between a fort and a fortress [apart from gender that is]??

Welcome to the first question of Game #23!

Scoring of yesterday's question is being delayed for a bit, so if you haven't yet answered that last question, you may still do so now.

Complete scoring and winners for Game #22 will be posted some time this evening.

Here is today's two point question:

Explain how and when the garrison mascot Tom Cat was killed while living at Fort McAllister?

You'll have till about 7am EST tomorrow to answer this question. Good Luck!

Poor Tom Cat was killed by an exploding shell during a bombardment of the fort. Different sources give different dates for when the unfortunate event occurred, but the majority opinion seems to be that it happened in March, 1863.
