According to what I can find, it appears that Grant and Sherman last fought together at the battle of Chattanooga.

Incidentally, homemade chocolates sounds like a great prize.

    >>> I beleive the date was wrong on this. What I could find it was in 1862 and not 1861.<<<
7 August 1862 - Upon the hearing that Union General Ben Butler plans to use the Virginia coastal village of Hampton to house escaped slaves, Confederate general John B. Magruder evacuated the town's residents and
then orders their homes to be burned.

Gen. John B. Magruder burned Hampton, Va.,because he had learned that Union Gen. Butler intended to use the village as a holding point for runaway slaves.

I think the answer you are probably expecting is Montgomery, Alabama. Alabama’s capital city served as the birthplace of the Confederacy. The order to fire on Fort Sumter – the singular act that started America’s costliest war – was sent by telegraph from an office at the base of Montgomery’s Dexter Avenue.
However, we should note that other places claim the title:

Known as The Birthplace of the Confederacy, Charleston, South Carolina, hosted the tumultuous Democratic Party National Convention of April 1860 as well as the secession convention that met later that year.

Abbeville, South Carolina, was the birthplace of John C. Calhoun, the influential politician who defended the rights of Southern states before the Civil War. As Calhoun’s home and as the place where the first secession document was presented, the town has been called “the birthplace of the Confederacy.”

The seal of Montgomery, Alabama says it is the "cradle of the Confederacy" so obviously it must also be the birthplace.

Abbeville, S.C. (the whole county in fact) is probably the most recognized as "officially" holding the title...Charleston and Montgomery have also tried to lay claim to the title...
