Here are the correct answers for the Week 1 questions.
1. Confederate General Gabriel Raines deployed the first subterra shells of the Civil War.
2. The city with the largest population in any of the Confederate states was New Orleans.
3. The seniormost Union Native American officer of the Civil War was Col. and Brevet Brig. Gen. Ely S. Parker (Donehogawa).
4. Maj. Gen. Benjamin Butler purchased several Gatling guns out of his own pocket and personally opened fire with one on at least one occasion.
5. On June 5, 1862, the United States extended diplomatic recognition to Haiti and Liberia. Though the idea of recognizing these nations had been bandied about for years, opposition from the Congressional delegations from the slaveholding states forestalled approval until after those states seceded.
On the old version of this board, I used to be able to use a strikethrough effect to indicate incorrect answers. I haven't yet figured out how to produce the strikethrough effect on the new version of the board. Until and unless I figure it out, I'll just put the word "Incorrect" behind the incorrect answers.
