I wasn't able to squeeze this post in before Mike started his upgrade work last night. Let's see if it'll go through now.

Here are the answers for Week 6.

26. Gen. Price told the Mississippians, “All of you who want to re-enlist, step forward; all of you who want to <u>be shot</u>, stand still.” By all accounts, it was one of the more effective re-enlistment talks in military history.

27. During the mid-19th century, the US Navy had a vessel called the USS Merrimack and another, considerably smaller vessel named the USS Merrimac. The Merrimack was the one that was acquired by the Confederates and renamed the CSS Virginia.

28. The Union gun was popularly known as the coffee mill gun.

29. The seniormost Confederate Native American officer in the Civil War was Brig. Gen. Degataga, a Cherokee chief, more commonly known as Stand Watie.

30. In 1864, Ulysses Grant was the author of the quote, “I intend to fight it out on this line if it takes all summer.
