Here are the questions for Week 3. New players are welcome to join the game at any time.

As usual, please submit answers to all five questions by 6 PM EST next Saturday, which will be January 22.

11. In what battle did Irishman Joseph Finegan beat back the Union troops of Gen. Truman Seymour?

12. What caused Gen. McCausland to flee to Europe after the war?

13. Who died with a bag of $2,000 in gold around their neck?

14. What caused Jefferson Davis's sore hand on New Year's Day, 1862?

12)To avoid being arrested for the retaliatory burning of Chambersburg, Pa.
13) Rose O'Neal Greenhow
14) Shaking so many folks' hands at the New year's Eve party at the C.S. White House the night before.

14. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on January, 1, 1862, Jefferson Davis welcomed callers to the Executive Mansion. He greeted each visitor, that's the cause of his sore right hand.

12. He wanted to avoid being arrested by Union men for charges of
burning Chambersburg, Pennsylvania in 1864.

14. Davis' hand was sore from shaking hands with numerous people at a
reception held the night before.
