My son is appearing in his high school play this evening, so there will be a bit of a delay before I can post the correct answers and scores for Week 2, but I'll get them posted either late tonight or sometime tomorrow.

Here are the questions for Week 3. Responses are due by 6 PM EST November 27. As always, please put your answers to all five questions in a single post.

11. What was the highest loss suffered in a single action by any Union regiment in the war? Your answer should name both the regiment and the battle.

12. By what other name was the Battle of Stone's River known?

13. What U.S. Senator invented an artillery projectile and was killed when a sample of his work exploded?

14. What president delivered the speech at the dedication of the Eternal Peace Light Memorial in Gettysburg? What was the date of the dedication (month, day, and year)?

15. (2 point question) What Ohio-born general adopted Tennessee as his home state and died at the Battle of Franklin?

Good luck!

Here are the answers to the Week 3 questions.

11. In the counterattack on the second day at Gettysburg, the 1st Minnesota Infantry lost 82% of its 262 men, the highest loss in a single action of any Union regiment in the war.

12. The Battle of Stone's River was also known as the Battle of Murfreesboro.

13. U.S. Senator Charles T. James invented an artillery projectile and was killed when a sample of his work exploded.

14. Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered the speech at the dedication of the Eternal Peace Light Memorial in Gettysburg. The monument was dedicated during the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the battle in July, 1938. I found conflicting sources as to the exact date, one saying the speech was delivered on July 1 and the other saying it was delivered on July 3, so I have accepted either answer.

15. Ohio-born general Otho French Strahl adopted Tennessee as his home state and died at the Battle of Franklin.

I note that several of you gave a different answer to Question #11. I was unable to find any source indicating 1st Maine Heavy Artillery suffered a casualty rate of at least 82% in a single engagement, either at Petersburg or any other battle (remember, the question referred to a single engagement, not the entire war). If any of you can cite such a source, I will accept the answer.

Here are the scores at the end of Week 3.

Sockknitter 18
Cindyscoops 17
Raggedrebel 17
Bill_torrens 15
Aphillbilly 14
Dawna 14
Traveller 14
Felinelady 4
Jackbluelight 3
Rivrrat 3

Three weeks to go in the current game. Questions for Week 4 will be posted shortly. As usual, responses are due by 6 PM EST on Saturday, Dec. 4.

I apologize for not being involved in the last 2 sets of questions ... Putting in a lot of hours at work due to the holidays ... hope now that I have a lull between Turkey day and Christmas that I can work on this weeks questions.
