Born November 5 1832, Cameron NY
Died February 3 1900, Bath NY
Pre-War Profession Drug clerk, graduated West Point 1855, garrison duty, frontier service, invalided 1859-1861.
War Service May 1861 1st Lt. in 3rd US Cavalry, aide to Gen. A. Porter at First Bull Run, Capt., August 1861 Col. of 3rd Pennsylvania Cavalry, commanded a mounted brigade in Peninsula campaign, Antietam campaign, September 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, Fredericksburg, Kelly's Ford, Stoneman's raid on Richmond, served in Western Virginia, commanded 2nd Cavalry Divn in Sheridan's Shenandoah Valley campaign, Fisher's Hill, relieved from duty by Sheridan for poor performance.
Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.V. August 7 1864, Brig. Gen. U.S.A. March 13 1865, Maj. Gen. U.S.A. March 13 1865.
Post War Career US consul general in Montreal, inventor.
