VAN ALEN, James Henry USA


Born August 17 1819, Kinderhook NY
Died July 22 1886, en route to the US on an ocean liner
Pre-War Profession Managed his business interests.
War Service August 1861 Col. of 3rd New York Cavalry, defences of Washington, April 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, served on the court investigating McDowell's performance at Second Bull Run, commanded defences of Aquia Creek, resigned July 1863.
Post War Career Travelled.
