Born November 23 1809, Princeton NJ
Died April 24 1891, Minneapolis MN
Pre-War Profession Graduated West Point 1831, garrison duty, resigned 1836, farmer, teacher, civil engineer, surveyor, stockman.
War Service July 1861 Col. of 2nd Minnesota, Mill Springs, March 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, advance on Corinth, commanded 2nd Divn/XIV Corps at Stone's River, commanded 3rd Divn/XXI Corps in Chickamauga campaign, commanded the post at Stone's River.
Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865.
Post War Career State adjutant general, postmaster.
