Pre-War Profession Graduated West Point 1819, artillery service, studied at the artillery school in Metz (France), superintendent of inspectors of weapons made by contractors, resigned 1834, iron manufacturer, railroad and canal executive.
War Service April 1861 Col. of 1st Connecticut, May 1861 Brig. Gen. of Connecticut Volunteers, Blackburn's Ford, First Bull Run, March 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 2nd Bde/1st Divn/Army of the Mississippi in advance on Corinth, commanded various posts, resigned April 1864.
Post War Career Founded the town of Anniston AL, railroad president. |
