TAYLOR, Thomas Hart CSA


Born July 31 1825, Frankfort KY
Died April 12 1901, Louisville KY
Pre-War Profession Mexican War, businessman, cattle drover.
War Service 1861 Capt. of infantry in Confederate army and Lt. Col. of 1st Kentucky, October 1861 Col., Peninsula campaign, command of brigade under Kirby Smith in Tennessee, November 1862 Brig. Gen., at Vicksburg was Pemberton's provost marshal (s), paroled after a short time, commanded Dist. of South Mississippi and East Louisiana, served as provost marshal to S D Lee, commanded forces at Mobile.
Post War Career Businessman, deputy US marshal, chief of police.
Notes It appears that President Davis did not nominate him to the Senate as Brig. Gen..
