Paixhan Guns Paixhan Guns invented by Colonel Bomford, of the United States Army, but first put into service in 1812 by French commander General Paixhan. Very large guns with diamaters of 8, 10, and 12 inches. Driven up inclined railways the largest of these guns can fire a shell weighing up to 115 pounds a total distance of 1500 yards. Usually used to destroy guns during seige operations. Improved versions of this design are still used on war ships today.
