Died September 21 1907, Auburn AL
Pre-War Profession VMI, professor at VMI and NCMI
War Service 1861 elected Maj. of 1st North Carolina Volunteers, Big Bethel, Lt. Col., September 1861 Col. of 28th North Carolina, Seven Days (w), Sharpsburg, November 1862 Brig. Gen., commanded Lane’s Bde/Hill’s Divn at Chancellorsville, commanded 2nd Bde/Pender’s Divn at Gettysburg, Cold Harbor (w), commanded Lane’s Bde/Wilcox’s Divn at Petersburg, Appomattox.
Post War Career Teacher, college professor.
Notes A vigorous fighter.
