Died May 28 1913, Washington DC
Pre-War Profession Graduated West Point 1856, frontier duty, resigned April 1861.
War Service 1861 Capt. of Virginia state troops, staff officer in Tennessee, June 1863 Col. of 11th Virginia Cavalry, Imboden's raid, Brandy Station, Gettysburg campaign, July 1863 Brig. Gen., commanded Lomax’s Bde/W H F Lee’s Divn in Overland campaign, August 1864 Maj. Gen., Yellow Tavern, Shenandoah Valley campaign, command of Valley District.
Post War Career Farmer, college president.
