LEE, William Henry Fitzhugh CSA


Born May 31 1837, "Arlington" VA
Died October 15 1891, Alexandria VA
Pre-War Profession Commissioned into US army 1857, resigned 1859, planter.
War Service 1861 Capt. in cavalry, Maj., Western Virginia, Lt. Col., April 1862 Col. of 9th Virginia Cavalry, Virginia operations, South Mountain, September 1862 Brig. Gen., commanded 3rd Cavalry Bde at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Brandy Station (w), captured while recuperating, released March 1864, April 1864 Maj. Gen., commanded W H F Lees’ Cavalry Divn at Petersburg, second in command of cavalry at Appomattox.
Post War Career Farmer, politician, US congressman.
Notes Second son of Gen. Robert E Lee. Youngest Maj. Gen. in Confederate service
