Died October 14 1895, Nice, France
Pre-War Profession Graduated West Point 1832, frontier duty, garrison duty, instructor at West Point.
War Service May 1861 Col. of 11th US Infantry, commanded 1st Bde/1st Divn at First Bull Run, May 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded IV Corps in Peninsula campaign, May 1862 promoted Maj. Gen. of Volunteers, Seven Days, commanded Yorktown District, moved against Richmond during the Gettysburg campaign, served on boards and commissions, retired May 1864.
Brevet Promotions Brig. Gen. U.S.A. May 31 1862.
Post War Career Gold miner, banker, wine maker.
Notes He was involved in a controversy with Gen. Dix about his actions during the Gettysburg campaign.
