Pre-War Profession Machinist, mill superintendent.
War Service May 1861 Col. of 1st Maine, September 1861 Col. of 5th Maine, Seven Days, Gaines' Mill (w), South Mountain, Antietam, September 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded draft rendezvous in New York, commanded 1st Divn/XX Corps in March to the Sea, Carolinas campaign.
Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.V.
March 13 1865.
