Died January 8 1902, New York NY
Pre-War Profession Bank clerk, banker, militia officer.
War Service May 1861 Capt. in 1st Iowa, Wilson's Creek, Lt. Col. of 9th Iowa, Pea Ridge (w,c) - Medal of Honor, July 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, Prairie Grove, November 1862 promoted Maj. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded Herron's Divn/XIII Corps in the Vicksburg campaign, commanded Northern Dist. of Louisiana.
Post War Career Lawyer, US marshal, secretary of state for Louisiana.
