Pre-War Profession Doctor
War Service March 1861 helped recruit 10th West Virginia - Lt. Col., May 1862 Col., Shenandoah Valley campaign, served in West Virginia, Cloyd's Mountain, commanded a brigade opposing Early's Washington raid, Third Winchester, Cedar Creek, Petersburg, March 1865 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, Appomattox.
Brevet Promotions Brig. Gen. U.S.V. October 19 1864, Maj. Gen. U.S.V. April 2 1865.
Post War Career Army service, served on commission that tried Lincoln's assassins, politician, pension agent, author.
