Born August 28 1828, Annapolis MD
Died January 5 1900, District of Columbia
Pre-War Profession Entered US army as an assistant surgeon 1849, frontier service, West Point, resigned 1859, college professor.
War Service May 1861 joined the army as assistant surgeon, April 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. in Regular Army and Surgeon General, dismissed following a court martial arising from disputes with Stanton.
Post War Career Doctor, writer.
