Died February 14 1894, CambridgeMA
Pre-War Profession Printer, politician.
War Service April 1861 2nd Lt. in 2nd US Cavalry, Lt. Col. of 8th Massachusetts, May 1861 Col., August 1861 Col. of 19th Massachusetts, Ball's Bluff, Peninsula campaign, Glendale (w), Antietam (w), November 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, court martial and recruiting duty, prison camp commander, commanded 3rd Divn/XVIII Corps (a Negro division) at Petersburg, draft and recruitment duties.
Brevet Promotions Brig. Gen. U.S.A. March 2 1867.
Post War Career Army service, retired 1870, governor of soldiers' homes.
