Gen. of Volunteers, commanded a Dist. in Eastern Arkansas, commanded 12th Divn/XIII Corps in Vicksburg campaign, Champion's Hill, recruitment duty, served in the early part of the Atlanta campaign, commanded the Dist. of Indiana.
Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.A.July 4 1864.
Post War Career Lawyer, US minister to Peru, US congressman, governor.
