Pre-War Profession Graduated West Point 1841, instructor at
West Point, Mexican war, frontier and garrison duty, present at Harper's Ferry when John Brown arrived.
War Service 1861 Capt. in artillery, served under McClellan in Western Virginia, Peninsula campaign, commanded 1st Bde/1st Divn/IV Corps in Seven Days, June 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 2nd Bde/1st Divn/IV Corps at Second Manassas, South Mountain, Antietam, commanded 2nd Divn/VI Corps at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, commanded the Artillery depot in Washington.
Brevet Promotions Brig. Gen. U.S.A.
March 13 1865, Maj. Gen. U.S.A.March 13 1865, Maj. Gen. U.S.V. July 13 1865.
Post War Career Army service, served in honor guard over
Lincoln's corpse, member of the commission which tried the conspirators, retired 1882.
