FRANKLE, Jones USA FRANKLE, Jones Born April 17, 1829, Prussia Died April 15, 1909, Cambridge, MA Pre-War Profession Educated for a time at the University of Breslau, serving one year in the Prussian Army as a volunteer and reserve officer from 1848 to 1851. He arrived in America in 1854. He married Anna Blasdell in Amesbury, MA March 8th, 1866. He was a teacher of languages in Haverhill and Newburyport, MA from 1856 to 1861. War Service Captain of the 14th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Major of the 17th Massachusetts Infantry from August 1, 1861, Colonel of the 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery from May 13, 1863, Brevet Major General from September 1865. He served as Assistant Inspector on General Foster's staff, Provost Marshal of the Department of North Carolina, Military Governor of Plymouth, NC, and commander of the military defenses of New Bern, NC. Brevet Promotions Brig. Gen. U.S.A. September 3, 1865. Post War Career Lived on his farm in Amesbury, MA from 1865-1868, in the insurance business in Haverhill, MA and Boston, MA. He was a Mason, an Odd Fellow, a member of the Loyal Legion, and the G.A.R.
