ELLIOT, Washington Lafayette
Born March 31 1825, Carlisle PA
Died June 29 1888, San Francisco CA
Pre-War Profession Attended West Point 1841-44, left to study medicine, 1846 commissioned into US Army, Mexican war, frontier duty.
War Service August 1861 Capt. in 3rd US Cavalry, Wilson's Creek, September 1861 Col. of 2nd Iowa Cavalry, New Madrid, Island No 10, siege of Corinth, June 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, chief of cavalry at Second Bull Run (w), commanded cavalry division of the Army of the Cumberland, Atlanta campaign, commanded 2nd Divn/IV Corps at Nashville, commanded Dist. of Kansas.
Brevet Promotions Brig. Gen. U.S.A. March 13 1865, Maj. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865, Maj. Gen. U.S.A. March 13 1865.
