Pre-War Profession Lawyer.
War Service April 1861 Lt. Col. of 14th Ohio, Philippi, Laurel Hill, Corrick's Ford, Mill Springs, November 1862 Col., Tullahoma campaign, commanded 3rd Bde/3rd Divn/XIV Corps in Atlanta campaign, Jonesboro (w), March to the Sea, Carolinas campaign, June 1865 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers.
Brevet Promotions Brig. Gen. U.S.V. December 9 1864.
